Step 3 of Citric Acid Cycle

You got it!! This is our 1st Oxidative Decarboxylation reaction. In this reaction, we went from Isocitrate, a 6-Carbons molecule to Alpha-Ketoglutarate, a 5-Carbons molecule, therefore CO2 is released.

Our next reaction is also an Oxidative Decarboxylation type of reaction.

What will be the reactant(s) and product(s) of this next reaction?

Reactants: Alpha-Ketoglutarate, NAD+, CoA-SH --> Products: NADH, Succinyl CoA, CO2
